Feng Shui issue 1: Window behind the headboard of the bed
With windows behind you when you are sleeping, it lacks proper support and privacy. It is better to move the bed so there is a solid wall or at least a tall headboard behind.
Feng Shui issue 2: One or more mirror is directly facing a bed
The reflection of the mirror might startle you at night when you are not paying attention. Any shiny surface has the same effect. It can disturb your mind. It is better to move the mirror to face a different direction.
Feng Shui issue 3: No support behind the bed or headboard
Keep the headboard against a solid wall provides the most support and sense of security. Avoid placing a bed in the middle of a room away from a wall. You can sleep better knowing no traffic will go behind you.
Feng Shui issue 4: One side of the bed is against a wall
In Feng Shui, it is best to have enough room on both sides of a bed. The left side holds the Yang or male energy, and the right side holds the Yin or female energy. When one side is against a wall, it symbolizes a blockage in your social life with male or female friends.
It is not a big issue with kid’s beds, but more important for adults.
Feng Shui issue 5: A very low bed
A low bed can affect your health with the dampness from the floor. However, if you can properly maintain it by regularly hanging the bedding or mattress under the sun, vacuuming, and using a dehumidifier, it is not a problem anymore.
Feng Shui issue 6: Storage below the bed
Storage under the bed is not entirely bad. The problem is that we often forget what we have, and the space becomes messy over time. So the energy turns negative easily.
So either keep the under-bed area empty or clean regularly to ensure good Feng Shui.
Feng Shui issue 7: Restroom door directly faces a bed
It is common to have a bathroom inside a master bedroom. If the bathroom door directly facing the bed, the moisture and smell can affect the health.
If you can not move the bed to a new location, you can keep the restroom clean and just close the door most of the time.
Feng Shui issue 8: Sloped ceiling
In Feng Shui, a rectangular room is the best. Any odd shape or slope can change the Qi.
When you are sleeping with your head in the lower end of a sloped ceiling, it can feel oppressed. It can symbolize reduced opportunities in your life.
Feng Shui issue 9: Beams above the bed
It is not good for Feng Shui to sit or sleep directly under a ceiling beam. It can give you stress, and indicating a stressed and repressed life.
You can move the bed or cover up the beams with drywall or fabric to create a flat ceiling.
Feng Shui issue 10: Air conditioner or fan above the bed
When an air conditioner or a ceiling fan is directly above the bed or too close to your head, it can create chaotic energy. The Qi moves too fast and can not stay long enough. It can mean you are constantly running around without much accomplished.
The best solution is to move the bed or move the AC/fan. If you can not move the ceiling fan, at least not turn it on when sleeping.
Feng Shui issue 11: A small bed in the same room with a bigger bed
This can be common when you have a little kid or baby you like to take care of closely. But it is not good Feng Shui if you have this setup for the long term. In Feng Shui, a small bed and a big bed in the same room can indicate relationship problems such as a third person in marriage. It is better to let kids have their own bedrooms.
Feng Shui issue 12: Bunk beds
A bunk bed is common in kids’ rooms. It does save space by going vertical, but it is not an ideal Feng Shui setup. A bed is for resting and relaxing. When kids have to climb up and down to sleep, it becomes more of a toy.
The height of the upper bed can seem a little unsafe for small children. If you have to use a bunk bed, try to find a secure wall, and away from windows.
Personally, I prefer 2 beds side by side in one room better. Even if the bed has to be against a wall on one side. It looks more secure and relaxing.
If your bedroom is limited and can not change the layout, you can keep it clean and well-organized. A cleaned space has good energy, and will not trigger negative Feng Shui.
