What to do with negative Feng Shui areas

What are the negative Feng Shui areas?

There is no perfect Feng Shui. There is always auspicious and inauspicious areas in every Feng Shui chart. Like Yin and Yang, there are two opposite sides of Feng Shui. The positive side might turn negative over time and vice versa. What can we do when dealing with negative Feng Shui areas? For example, the number 5 yellow star (Wu Huang) on the Flying Star chart, or the Tai Sui (Grand Duke), Sui Po (Year breaker), and San Sha (Three killings) that bring negative energy to different areas every year?

San Sha (Three Killings), Tai Shui (Grand Duke), and Sui Po (the Year Breaker)

San Sha (Three Killings), Tai Shui (Grand Duke), and Sui Po (the Year Breaker) flies to different sectors of the house every year, and can potentially bring misfortune or illness if we are not careful. First, we have to learn what they are and where they are located.

Tai Shui and Sui Po are always in the opposite directions. Tai Shui is always residing in the animal sign of the year. For example, 2018 is the dog year so the Tai Shui's location is in the dog location. To know the 12 animal sign's location, we also need to know the 24 mountains of the Feng Shui compass.

Tai Shui year is traditionally bad for the person born in the same animal sign, but it can also be a breakthrough year even though it might come with stress and instability.

24 mountain Feng Shui Luo Pan (compass) and animal signs

It is very simple. Traditionally, Feng Shui Luo Pan (compass) is divided into 24 sections. So out of the 360 degrees of a circle, each of the 24 sections is 15 degrees. The animal signs are corresponding to the old Chinese timing system of 12 earthly branches and the 12 mountains (directions) on the Chinese compass. See the chart above for the location of the 12 animal signs and the corrosponding 24 mountains.

Since the dog belongs to the Northwest 1 direction, that is the Tai Shui location for 2018. And the opposite is the Sui Po (Year Breaker) location which is in the Southeast 1. In 2019, the Tai Shui will be in the Pig (Boar) area (NW3) and the Sui Po (Year Breaker) will be the opposite of that, in SE3.

San Sha (Three killings) is always in West, South, East or North, and move to the next direction in that order. In 2018, the San Sha is in the North.

The number 5 star (5 Yellow or Wu Huang)

The 5 yellow star is also one of the most negative stars among the 9 Flying Stars. In 2018, it is also in the North. That makes the North a double negative area. No drilling, nailing or construction in this area for the year to avoid offending the inauspicious star.

What should we do with the negative Feng Shui areas?

Stay away from these areas if possible, and move to a better Feng Shui area temporarily

One basic rule is to stay away from these areas as much as possible. If you can temporarily move to a different room during this time, that will be ideal. But we all know that is not practical most of the time.

No renovation or construction here

Rule number two is no renovation, construction, or moving big furniture around in these locations. These might trigger the Qi or anger the star there. Keep quiet in these area to avoid any confrontation and show respect from a distance to be safe.

Facing the San Sha (Three killing) is better than sitting on the Three killing direction, and Sitting on the Tai Shui (Grand Duke) direction is better than facing the Tai Shui direction

That is an old Feng Shui saying about facing and sitting direction of Tai Shui and San Sha. If you can not avoid staying in the room, it is better to face the San Sha direction (North in 2018) when you sit, and not sit with your back to the San Sha direction. It is the opposite with Tai Shui (Grand Duke). It is better to sit with Tai Shui direction behind you (Northwest 1 in 2018) than directly in front of you. It will reduce the chance of activating the negative star.

Celestial animals of Qi Lin and Pi Xiu

Qi Lin and Pi Xiu are legendary animals to bring protection and wealth luck. Placing these sculptures in these areas will reduce the negative influence of the star. If you are a Buddhist or Taoist, you can have your sculpture "energized" in the temple first to increase the power.

Religious rituals

Every new year, many Chinese people will go to the temple to "settle" the Tai Shui if their animal sign is conflicting with the Tai Shui that year. It is a ritual of writing your name and birthday, then place it in a certain spot of the temple with prayer, offering and donation. If you have a different religion, there might be some ritual you can perform or charms you can carry to ensure peace and prosperity.

Besides all the Feng Shui tips above, doing good deeds and charity work will always bring you better fortune. It is believed that donating blood can prevent you from a serious accident, donating money can prevent personal money loss. Doing good can always accumulate good Karma, and save you from misfortune in an unexpected way.
