Ba Zhai feng shui (Eight Mansions) good luck tips and rules

The Ba Zhai feng shui, or sometimes called the Eight Mansions or Eight Houses feng shui, is one of the classical Chinese feng shui schools. It has particular theories and rules different from other styles of feng shui. We will discuss the basic rules and their methods to bring in good luck.

The Eight charts for 8 types of houses and 8 Life Kua (Life star) numbers

The Eight Mansions feng shui comes from Bagua (the eight trigrams) originally. Any house can be divided into 8 directions and there are 8 stars in each chart. The location of the stars is different in each chart, but basically, there are 2 different types including the East and the West groups.

The East and the West groups

In the East group charts, the 4 lucky directions are always in the South, Southeast, East, and Northeast. The West group charts show the lucky directions in the opposite directions (Southwest, West, Northwest, and Northeast). See the charts below. The red colors are the lucky stars.

The Life Gua (Life Kua or Life Star) number

Another way to find your Eight Mansions feng shui chart is by your Life Gua or Life Star number. You can find your life star number by your birth year and gender. Check out our previous posts and free download about how to find your Life Gua number and your personal feng shui chart.

There are 8 Life Gua numbers from 1-9 but without 5. The number 5 Life Gua becomes number 2 for male and number 8 for female.

Your feng shui chart based on the Life Gua number will follow you no matter where you go or what kind of house you live in.

Ba Zhai house chart

The Ba Zhai house chart depends on the house sitting and facing direction. When you move to a new place, the house chart will be different.

The 4 lucky stars and 4 unlucky stars

There are 8 stars in each chart. 4 of them are considered auspicious, and the other 4 are inauspicious stars. See the energy of each star below.

The Eight Mansions feng shui rules

Once you find out your own feng shui chart based on your Life Gua/Kua number or house directions, you can apply the following basic rules.

The kitchen and stove direction in the Eight Mansions feng shui

One big difference of the Ba Zhai feng shui rule is about the kitchen and the stove. Most other feng shui schools prefer a kitchen in a lucky direction, but in the Eight Mansions feng shui, the kitchen and stove should be located in one of the 4 inauspicious directions, and have the stove facing one of the 4 lucky directions.

Below are the lucky kitchen and stove locations and facing directions. Each star will bring different energy. Depending on what you like to enhance, you can set up your kitchen stove accordingly.

Bring in luck by renovation

Another way to bring in good luck is to have renovation or more movement in the 4 lucky directions. More activities and noise will increase the energy of the stars and activate luck.

On the other hand, try to reduce noise or construction in the 4 inauspicious directions.
