The Chinese animal signs and the 24 mountains

The 12 Chinese animal signs are related to your birth year according to the lunar calendar. In Feng Shui and Chinese fortune-telling, the starting of the year is one of the 24 solar terms called “ Li Chun” (starting of spring). It typically falls on the February 4th or 5th of the western calendar.

The 12 zodiac signs are in a certain order, and occupy certain directions on the “24 mountain” chart. The 24 mountains are the 24 directions, expanded from the main 8 directions. Each of the main directions is divided into 3 directions.

Similar to western astrology, the 12 animal signs have auspicious and inauspicious relationships and directions. For example, the opposite signs are usually conflicting signs, and the 60-degree signs are compatible signs.

For each animal sign, there are 2 unlucky directions in the 24 mountain chart. One is always related to the opposite direction of the animal sign (Sitting in the opposite direction and facing its own direction).

And each animal sign has 3 auspicious directions. They are always related to South/North or East/West directions.

The sitting and facing directions are the opposite directions. For most houses, the front door or front of the building is the facing direction, so the opposite is the sitting direction.

If you are in an apartment building and your apartment front door is not the same as the building front entrance, you can look for the biggest opening such as a big window or balcony as the front-facing direction.
