Find your own Life Kua number and chart with the Ba Zhai Feng Shui

Find your own Life Kua number and chart with the Ba Zhai Feng Shui

The Ba Zhai ( Eight Mansions or the 8 houses) Feng Shui is one of the foundations of Feng Shui schools. It is easier to learn and apply for Feng Shui beginners, and a good reference when combined with other styles of classical Feng Shui.

There are 2 types of Ba Zhai Feng Shui charts. One is based on the house sitting and facing directions, and the other one is based on the person’s birth year and gender. In this article, we are focusing on the Feng Shui chart based on your Life Kua number and birth year because this chart will stay with you for your whole life no matter what kind of house you live in.

Find your Life Kua number

As in most Chinese metaphysics or fortune-telling, the feng shui year starts with the “Li Chun” (start of the spring) on the lunar calendar. The Li Chun usually falls on the February 4th, 5th, or 6th on the western calendar. So if your birthday is before that, you belong to the previous year.

Refer to the chart below to find your Life Kua number. The male and female will have different numbers even in the same birth year.

The number 5 star

Note there is no number 5 star in the chart above. For male, the number 5 star is changed to the number 2 star, and for female, it is changed to the number 8 star.

The 8 Feng Shui charts of the 8 Mansions Feng Shui

Once you find out your Life Kua number, you can find your feng shui chart below. There is no number 5 Kua so there are only 8 charts (Kua or star number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, 7, 8, 9).

Each chart is divided into 8 sections. There are 4 lucky stars and 4 unlucky stars in each chart.

The 8 stars and meanings

The charts below show the basic meanings of the 4 lucky stars and unlucky stars.

The lucky stars include the Life Generating (Shen Qi), Heavenly Doctor (Tian Yi), Longevity (Yan Nian), and Stability (Fu Wei).

And the 4 unlucky stars include the Life Ending (Jue Ming), Five Ghosts (Wu Gui), Six Killings (Liu Sha), and Mishaps (Huo Hai).

Depending on your current life goals, you can arrange your important rooms in the lucky sectors and unimportant rooms in the 4 lucky sectors.

Pay attention to the Kitchen and location of the Kitchen stove. They are supposed to be in the lucky directions. See more detail below,

The East and West group

One basic concept about the Ba Zhai or Eight Mansions Feng Shui is the East and West groups. There are East and West types of Life Kua numbers and East/West types of houses.

When we look at the charts above, the East group charts have lucky stars mostly in the East. And for the West group charts, the lucky stars are mostly in the West. They are opposite to each other.

The basic idea of the 8 Mansions feng shui is to have the East person (with East Life Kua) living in the East house for the best luck. And It is best for the East group people to marry other East group people and vice versa. We know this is not practical. There will be a family mixed with East and West groups. We just have to be more flexible and find a balance when arranging feng shui.

Adjusting the East and West group people living in the same house

How to adjust the mix of the East and West group people living under one roof. It can be tricky, but there are some general rules.

It depends on the role of the person. For the person who is in charge of the cooking, the kitchen’s layout should match best for the cook. For the breadwinner, the office or entrance door should match his or her lucky directions. If health is important to a certain family member, make sure the bedroom is in the heavenly doctor, longevity, or stability sectors.

The other way is to look at different layers or scales of Feng Shui. The big scale is the East/West house based on the sitting directions. Next is the direction of the main entrance. And following that is the bedroom door direction. If that is not possible, then arrange your bed direction so it is in one of your 4 lucky sectors.

There will be some compromise if you and your partner are not in the same East or West group charts. That is one flaw of the Ba Zhai (Eight Mansions) feng shui and needs some creativity to make the charts work for everyone in a house.

The special note about the Kitchen stove, bed, and door direction in the Ba Zhai feng shui

The Ba Zhai Feng Shui has some unique theory about the Kitchen stove, door, and bed directions that are different from other schools of Feng Shui.

Base on the Ba Zhai theory, the kitchen stove is best to be set up in the location of the unlucky sectors, but with the stove facing one of the lucky sectors. It is said to bring good wealth luck if the stove is set up this way.

For the bed and door direction, the sitting direction is used instead of the facing direction according to the Ba Zhai theory. So if your headboard is located in the East, that is the direction of the bed based on the Ba Zhai Feng Shui. And the location of the door is more important than the door-facing direction. That is something to keep in mind when arranging Feng Shui.
