Rethink future and set up a personal vision board

In a time of uncertainty, we need to rethink our future and know what is the most important value for us. A vision board is a good tool to keep us stay on the right track and make the right decision.

A vision board can include images, objects, or words that are meaningful to you. When we spend time creating a vision board, we first meditate and reflect on our past and current situations. We try to imagine our future experience, event, and lifestyle we really want through images and phrases. At the same time, we can let go of behaviors or activities not supporting our dreams and goals. A vision board is like a checkpoint we can refer to daily so we don’t get side-tracked or lost easily.

Format of the vision board

Your personal vision board can be in any format that resonates with you. The most common types include a message board or picture frame with magazine cutout, art, or words.

You can expend the board to a whole wall or part of the wall and display your images and words there. A bigger size display is easier to see.

Or you can go with a notebook size pages to fill in art, graphics, and phrases.

Some people like the digital vision board so it is easy to collect images from the internet and easy to show on your computer screen or phone screen. There are many digital vision board phone apps you can download, or simply use “word” document to display your artwork and words. Other graphic programs I like include Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Procreate for Ipad.

There is no right or wrong format for a vision board because it is a very personal choice. If a certain format inspires you, it is the right format for your vision board. You can also combine several different formats to remind yourself of your dreams all the time.

Spend time and connect with your vision board

One reason a vision board works is that you spend time creating it, meditating on it, and remembering the emotion and motivation of the images and words. Because you invest the time to pick and choose the words and artworks that are meaningful to your heart, they act as instant motivation or inspiration every time you see them. With a vision board, it is easier to make the right life choices that support your dreams and goals.

After creating the vision board, remember to look at it daily to reflect what matters the most to you in life.

Stay flexible and leave room for growth

A vision board is not a one-time project. Our life changes and priority can change too. Update your vision board regularly or after a period of time. Leave room for future growth, and replace outdated ideas with new ones. Be flexible but stay true to yourself.

Areas of focus

Here are 5 common areas of focus when you are creating a vision board.

  1. Finance and work

  2. Family and relationship

  3. Health and wellness

  4. Recreation and hobby

  5. Spiritual and community - when there is a bigger purpose in life than just ourselves. We can always give back to society and help others.

Life is not limited to these 5 areas. You can certainly include anything that is dear to your heart on your personal vision board. Collect and display images, words, or objects that reflect your dreams and ideal life.

Feng Shui enhancers and vision board

Feng Shui enhancers or lucky items can act as a vision board too. Symbols are powerful when they resonate with you. Instead of displaying all images and words in one board, you can display feng shui items in related spaces.

  1. For finance and wok, you can display dragon, horse, waterfall, or anything representing wealth and prosperity in an office, study room, or desk.

  2. For family and relationship, you can display red or pink flowers, and a pair of doves or swans in the family room or bedroom.

  3. For health and wellbeing, display a Hulu (Chinese gourd), dragon turtle, or turtle in the bedroom or kitchen.

  4. For recreation and hobby, use some lucky bamboo or Kuan Yin (Guan Yin) buddha in a studio or family room.

  5. For spiritual and community work, you can display natural crystals or jades near the front entrance or living room.

These are just a few examples of enhancers or good-luck items you can display at home. Some other common symbols include a Pi Xiu, Qi Lin, Koi fish, peony flower, and so on.

I hope you get some ideas to start your own vision board and start planning your future, and decorate your space to reflect your dreams and goals.
