Bulky knit reversible cable scarf pattern
/Reversible scarf
Here is a super bulky knitted scarf using 9 mm knitting needle or US size 13. I like super bulky for hand knitting because it knits up so fast and so warm. The bulky hand-knit look is also very trendy this season. I use seed stitches on the side and a reversible cable in the middle. It creates a curving shape at the cast on and cast off edges.
The reversible cable is made of 12 stitches of ribbing (K1, P1)*. It will look like 6 rows of stockinette stitches on either side. The cable is crossed every 12 rows. It can be adjusted for different look.
Pattern
Yarn: I use one ball of "Stitch Studio by Nicole - Belle". 300g, 263 yard/240m. 100% acrylic. 9 mm needle/ US size 13. Any bulky or worsted weight yarn will work. Gauge is not as critical in scarf. Worsted weight makes a nice lighter scarf for kids.
You need a cable needle or similar size crochet hook for cable knitting. A big safety pin will work too. Sometimes it is easier to knit by moving the stitches in the cable needle back to the left needle, rather than knitting directly from the cable needle.
Cast on 24 stitches.
row 1. (K1, P1)* repeat for first 6 stitches, place a stitch marker, (K1, P1)* for 12 stitches, place a marker, (K1, P1)* repeat for the last 6 stitches.
row 2. (P1, K1)* repeat for the first 6 stitches, (K1, P1)* for 12 stitches, (P1, K1)* for the last 6 stitches.
repeat row 1 and 2 until row 5.
row 6. Cable crossing row - (P1, K1)* repeat for the first 6 stitches, put next 6 stitches on cable needle in front of the knitting, knit the next 6 stitches in ribbing pattern (K1, P1)*, knit the 6 stitches from cable needle in ribbing pattern (K1, P1)*, (P1, K1)* for the last 6 stitches.
Now repeat the following 12 rows until your desired length:
1. start repeating row 1 and row 2 for 11 rows,
2. row 12 (cable row, same as row 6) - (P1, K1)* repeat for the first 6 stitches, put next 6 stitches on cable needle in front of the knitting, knit the next 6 stitches in ribbing pattern (K1, P1)*, knit the 6 stitches from cable needle in ribbing pattern (K1, P1)*, (P1, K1)* for the last 6 stitches.
The last 6 rows:
repeat row 1 and row 2 for the last 5 rows.
Bind off and weave in the ends.
The end. Lightly steam block.
