Is house number 4 bad Feng Shui and how to fix it?
/Is house number 4 unlucky in Feng Shui and how to fix it?
The number 4 is considered an unlucky number in many Asian countries. Is it really terrible Feng Shui for a house number containing one or more “4”?
If you find a perfect house except the house number is 44, can you still move in? We will look at the reasons why people keep away from the number 4 house, and what can we do to fix the issue.
The cultural association of the number 4
In the Chinese language, the number 4 is pronounced as “Si”, and it is very similar to the sound the “death”. That is one major reason Chinese people think number 4 is unlucky.
People try to avoid number 4 when picking a car plate number, cell phone number, or any number when you have a choice.
In Asian countries influenced by Chinese culture, some buildings even skip the 4th floor because of that. In the elevator panel, the fourth floor can be called something else, or the third floor will continue to the fifth directly. This is similar to the number 13 in western countries. The numbers 13 and 666 are unlucky numbers because of the cultural and religious association.
Besides the cultural association, the number four does not have a negative meaning in Feng Shui. In fact, number 4 can be lucky based on some Feng Shui theories.
If you do not have a Chinese background and never associate number 4 with death or bad luck, the number four should not have any negative impact on you. No worry about living in a number 4 house at all.
Lucky numbers in Chinese culture
So what are the lucky numbers in the Chinese community and Feng Shui? Here are some general lucky numbers.
The number 8 is very lucky because in Chinese (or Cantonese), the number eight is pronounced very similarly to “prosperity” and “abundance”.
This is the number 1 lucky number. Car plate number or phone number contains an 8 or multiple of 8, such as 8888, which can be super popular and quite expensive to get.
In Feng Shui, we are still in period 8 now (2004 – 2023), so number eight is the most timely and auspicious number.
The number 9 is also very auspicious because it is the largest single-digit number and symbol of the most Yang energy.
In Chinese pronunciation, nine sounds like “long” or “forever”. It has a very lucky association.
In Feng Shui, Period 9 (2024 – 2043) is coming soon, so 9 is also a timely and auspicious number.
The number one is lucky because it is the symbol of the beginning, first, or top.
The number six is also very lucky in Chinese culture. There are many Chinese proverbs that associate number 6 with happiness and success. Number 6 star is also very lucky in the Flying Star feng shui.
Those are the lucky numbers you want to pick when you have choices. It can be multiple of each number or in any combination. Any house number containing one or more of these numbers will be lucky too.
How to check if your house number is lucky?
There are two basic ways to check if your house number is lucky. The first one is to see if your house contains the lucky or unlucky number.
For example, if the number is 74. The number 4 is present so it is an “unlucky” house according to the Chinese culture.
The second way is to add up all digits in the number until there is a single digit left. The number decides if it is lucky or not.
For example, if the house number is 1357, you can add up 1, 3, 5, and 7. The total is 16. Then, add up 1 and 6 again. The final number is 7. Number 7 is a neutral number. We can check the luck by adding all numbers up.
How to fix an unlucky house number such as 4?
An easy way to fix is to have a circle or oval shape to enclose the house number and display the number plate in front of the house.
The circle or oval shape contains and restricts the energy of the inauspicious number, so it does not affect the house much. It is that simple.
The second solution is to add some red color around the entrance. Red is traditionally considered an auspicious color in China. It has a strong Yang energy. Adding a red carpet or red accent decor can help protect the house.
In Feng Shui, red is the Fire element, it can reduce the Wood element (number 4). So it makes sense either way.
Looking at number 4 from the Feng Shui and Ga Gua point of view
In Flying Star or Xuan Kong feng shui, the number 4 star is associated with academic luck, talent, wisdom, popularity, and even romance luck. It is generally a very positive star.
In the traditional Bagua theory, the number 4 is related to “Xun” gua, and related to Wind, Tree, and the eldest daughter.
Both theories do not associate number 4 with bad luck at all. So there is really no need to worry too much about a number 4 house. It will affect you only when you believe that way.
Four can also be associated with double pairs and become very lucky. It really depends on how you look at it.
There is no reason you have to avoid a number 4, 44, or even 444 house. Add a house plate with the number circled and place something red to increase the positive energy. Then, move on to live the best of your life.
