Knitting an envelope style pillowcase - an easy stash buster

If you love to knit or crochet, you probably have too much yarn collection at hand. An easy stash busting project is to make simple pillowcases. You can decide the color, the shape, and size. Mix and match different color and texture. Experiment with different stitches.
I use my favorite Brother 260 bulky knitting machine and knit 66 stitches wide and 260 rows long of the plain stockinette stitches. Then I hand knit the edges with a few rows of 1 x 1 ribbing using a smaller size needle so it does not curl.
You can also hand knit a long rectangle piece of your chosen stitches and fold it with overlapping flaps, stitch or crochet the 2 edges, and insert the pillow.
The envelope style pillowcase is just a long piece of knitting with a few inches of overlapping so we can stuff the insert, but still not show the inside. You can add buttons and loops to secure the closure even more.
The choice of the insert should be slightly larger than the knitted pieces laying flat because the knitting is stretchy. It makes the final product looks fuller.
Use binder clips to hold the knitting before stitching it up. It makes both sides matching easier.
Hope you have fun making colorful pillowcases. Watch the video for more details.
